Seafood Saganaki

Do you have a favorite dish that reminds you of your careless summer vacations?

For us, this dish is the Greek saganaki.

It is a traditional dish made with tomatoes, seafood, and feta cheese.

When I visited one of the fish markets where I usually shop,  I discovered their cleaned mussels.

They are excellent for saganaki.

Ingredients:

  • 1 onion diced
  • 3 cloves garlic chopped
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 2 cans tomatoes of 400 gr each
  • 2 packs of cleaned mussels
  • 150 gr feta cheese
  • parsley for garnishing

Instructions:

Sauté the onion with some olive oil and add the chopped garlic. Add 1 tsp sugar to caramelize. Add the two cans of tomatoes (blended)and let the mixture simmer. You can add 1 tbsp tomato paste to the sauce.

Add the washed mussels to the sauce and let them simmer until the sauce thickens.

Transfer to an ovenproof dish and sprinkle crumbled feta cheese.

If you like your food spicy, add chili.

Broil for 5-10 min on 200 C.

Enjoy the saganaki with freshly baked bread and a glass of ouzo.

Cheers and Bon Appétit
